Midday sea
Harsh sun, bright water and sky: protect the highlights and keep the horizon level.
Follow the screens in order. Each card shows the gesture to reach the screen, then the settings to set.
1Camera view
How to get there: Liveview after power on (tap the on-screen icons)
Shooting mode
Set to: Video
Why: Video mode; switch to Photo for stills of the same scene with the same settings below.
Tap the mode icon at the bottom left, swipe to choose, then tap the mode or swipe up to return. ActiveTrack is unavailable in Panorama, Timelapse, Motionlapse and SpinShot.
Focus and metering point
Set to: Tap the brightest area you want to keep
Why: Metering follows the tapped point, so metering on bright water protects it from clipping.
Single tap the liveview to focus and meter on that point.
2Image and audio settings
How to get there: Swipe left in the camera view
Color mode
Set to: D-Log 2 10bit
Why: The manual recommends D-Log for high-contrast, multi-colour scenes to enlarge dynamic range; sea and sky are the textbook case.
D-Log modes keep more dynamic range for color grading in post. The manual names D-Log 10bit and D-Log 2 10bit; other modes are as shown on the camera.
Color Recovery
Set to: On
Why: Shows a graded preview so the flat D-Log image does not mislead you about exposure.
Only with D-Log 10bit or D-Log 2 10bit: previews the graded look in the liveview.
PRO parameters
Set to: Tap PRO: lowest sensitivity, expose for the water highlights
Why: Craft recommendation, not from the manual. In full sun the limit is clipping, not noise; without an ND filter accept a faster shutter.
Tap PRO to adjust the pro parameters. The manual does not list them; exposure-related values are set here on the camera.
3Control center
How to get there: Swipe down from the top of the camera view
Gimbal mode
Set to: Tilt Locked
Why: Keeps the tilt fixed so the horizon stays where you put it during lateral moves along the shore.
Follow (default) suits most scenes incl. vlogs and selfies. Tilt Locked suits push-in/pull-out and lateral moves. FPV follows the handle freely for immersive shots; FPV⊥ keeps the camera perpendicular to the handle on power-on or recenter.
Reference Line
Set to: On
Why: Reference lines assist composition; use them to level the horizon.
Screen brightness
Set to: Adaptive brightness on
Why: The manual notes adaptive brightness is for outdoor use.
Adaptive brightness is meant for outdoor use.
